After a three-year hiatus, KC returned to the spotlight last month to release her new break-up single, “You.” Today, she supplements the emotional, anger-filled track with a four-and-a-half minute visual that embodies most women’s mentality during a bitter separation.
The California native takes a page from Ashanti’s “The Way That I Love You” book, channeling the singer’s hardcore persona after she learns about her man’s ongoing infidelity. Focused on handling her boyfriend’s indiscretions the Oakland way, Keyshia handcuffs and bounds the man we’ll now refer to as her ex then files a missing person’s report with the police. While they question her about her ex’s actions and whereabouts leading up to his disappearance, KC has flashbacks about their violent encounters. Once the police leave her house, we’re introduced to her cheating ex!
Keyshia drags him around the house bound to a chair only to find herself throwing him over her balcony and into her pool. Here, Remy Ma’s #shETHER persona meets an amped KC, and together the two let him know that “at one point it would have been gun point on site.” Then French Montana comes through to seemingly help get rid of the body. In the process, the story’s other woman is kidnapped and bound for the ride. Don’t worry, KC kept to Ashanti’s anecdote (we’re slick like that) and ultimately let everybody live.
