Heather Mack Releases Shocking Confession Video About Her Mother’s Murder

By Anecdote Staff @theanecdotemag · On February 7, 2017

The truth shall set you free.

Two years ago, a now 21-year-old Heather Mack was convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to 10 years in Bali, Indonesia’s infamous Kerobokon Prison after her mother’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase in the trunk of a taxi. Her boyfriend, 22-year-old Tommy Schaefer, was also arrested and sentenced to 18 years in prison for physically carrying out the brutal murder while his girlfriend allegedly hid in the bathroom during the attack. But in a twisted turn of events, Mack released a video yesterday (Feb. 6) confessing to her mother’s murder.

In her confession video, which was uploaded to YouTube, Heather recalls the “true” accounts of occurred the day she killed her mother and the events that led to her death. (Here is where many people should be asking is how does Heather have access to a phone and YouTube in prison). The Chicago native cites her reason for killing her mother: To avenge the death of her late father, James Mack, who she believes was murdered at the hands of her mother in a hotel room in Athens, Greece. Mack explains that she wanted to include her boyfriend in the plot so she would not have to be jailed alone.

“First, I asked Tommy Schaefer to help me find somebody to kill my mom for $50,000, and he said ‘No,’” Mack says. “After that, I got this whole new savage idea in my head that I wanted to kill her in a hotel room because she had killed my father in a hotel room. We were going to Bali, so I began to plot.”

As the confession continues, Mack explains that Schaefer was innocent of the crime and that she was selfish for including him into her scheme. Tearful, Heather confesses that she would take Schaeffer’s phone while he would sleep and create fake conversations between them in order to frame him for the crime. Additionally, she admits to threatening him with law enforcement if he did not comply with her demands to help hide her mother’s body. “I killed her myself, and then I told Tommy if he did not help me clean the room and get rid of the body then I would tell the police that he did it; that I would pay money to get him arrested…Tommy is…innocent. The only thing Tommy is not innocent of is hiding the body.”

While Heather regrets involving her then boyfriend in her plan, she does not regret the ending her mother’s life.

“I don’t regret killing my mother. And as evil that may sound, that’s my reality…But I regret bringing Tommy into it. I regret being selfish. I regret trapping an innocent person into this because it was my battle. It was my mother. It was my father.”

Mack tearfully closes her video pledging her love to Schaefer, and apologizing for his involvement in the murder.
