In 1929, Amelia Earhart was featured in Harper’s Bazaar. Her feature shed light on what fashion and femininity meant to her as the first female airplane pilot breaking barriers in the workplace. Fast forward 88 years, and Harper’s Bazaar is reigniting Earhart’s classic cover via Rihanna: another badass female transcending style and feminism in a modern age.

“There’s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world,” Rihanna shared while speaking with the fashion-forward publication. “It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer. Amelia Earhart was such a dynamic force in her industry, setting multiple aviation records in her time. So it was a no-brainer for me to team up with Harper’s Bazaar in honor of a woman who held her own with the big boys.”
While at first, the thought of Rihanna posing as Amelia Earhart seemed a bit random, the 2017 Rihanna rendition of a 1929 Amelia could not have been executed any better. From her classic wardrobe to her sassy demeanor, the Bajan beauty embodies the elements of a 21st-century Earhart. Both women rightfully reign as icons of their time. Both women have brought new meaning to power, style, confidence, courage, and most importantly, girl power!
Looks like Bad Gal RiRi has done it again, and we’d like to think that Ms. Earhart would be so damn proud.
